All indicators point to success.
Moving forward towards the Smart City
According to a recent ranking of so-called "Smart Cities" by the Düsseldorf-based consulting firm Haselhorst Associates, Görlitz is among the top ten rising stars in Germany. The city-wide fiber optic rollout in Görlitz is already well underway, and the entire city will be connected by the end of 2027. Other features that define a Smart City include the "Walk of Görliwood®" with its SmartGuide app, digital wayfinding systems in the Görlitz Tourist Information Center and the town hall, and the integration of online tickets for cross-border public transport.

The economy trusts Görlitz
The major retail chains are known for their stringent investment criteria. ALDI, Lidl, Netto, and REWE are investing heavily in Görlitz! Deutsche Bahn, together with the federal government and the Free State of Saxony, is also investing a total of €33.5 million in the renovation of the historic train station hall, scheduled for completion in 2029. Internationally active companies such as SKAN, Birkenstock, and Siemens are based in Görlitz. With over 1,000 employees in the IT sector, we can consider ourselves "Silicon Valley Görlitz." All of this demonstrates our commitment to Görlitz as a business location.
Nowhere is there more future than in research
With Casus, the Siemens Innovation Campus with the Fraunhofer Institute and the German Center for Astrophysics (DZA), Görlitz has established itself in recent years as a nationally and internationally recognized research location and has by no means played all its aces: the Senckenberg Museum, the Klingewalde Building Research Center/Construction future Lab will start soon.

Görlitz is particularly good at inspiring families with exciting offers
It's no coincidence that visitors voted our zoo the second-best zoo in Germany. The Gerhart Hauptmann Theatre was awarded the title of Germany's best city theatre by the trade journal "Die Deutsche Bühne" in August 2025. Our Görlitz Tourist Information Center is a tourism champion. Since 2023, Görlitz has been certified as a family-friendly holiday destination. Announcements like these attract guests from near and far and make us all very proud.
Committed citizens actively contribute to development "on a small scale"
The results of the citizen participation projects are impressive. From senior citizens' afternoons and neighborhood festivals to new waste containers and seating areas, planting initiatives, climbing walls, ping-pong tables, and basketball hoops – all of this makes our city a more livable and lovable place.
Furthermore, volunteer work is highly valued in Görlitz. This is a strong commitment to our city. Thank you to everyone for that!
