Görlitz is now a research and future-oriented location. A few years ago, this was just a vision – now it's reality.
Balance sheet:
- CASUS, a German-Polish research institute, will have its permanent headquarters at Untermarkt and in Werk 1 – in Lunitz
- The Senckenberg site on Bahnhofstrasse, the second largest site after Frankfurt/Main, is nearing completion
- Siemens Innovation Campus with research on hydrogen technology (Fraunhofer)
- German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA) with offices in the post office building and laboratories on the Alstom-KNDS site
- Construction Future Lab in Klingewalde – Digitization of the future of construction
- Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences offers teacher training programs in cooperation with the University of Leipzig, a new nursing degree program, and planned further offerings in the health sector
Goals:
- Expansion of the research sites CASUS, CFLab, DZA, Senckenberg and Siemens Campus
- Revival of civil engineering studies and other practice-oriented degree programs
- close cooperation between university, city, business and schools
- new areas such as the Kahlbaum site as a research and innovation district
Growth and Energy – Climate Neutrality by 2030
We embarked on this journey back in 2019. The following core projects have emerged:
In doing so, we are implementing what moves us all:

climate-neutral district heating supply “United Heat”
- Investment volume of approximately €200 million, of which approximately €130 million has already been committed
- Savings of approximately 50,000 tons of CO₂ per year

Economy and crafts
Görlitz needs strong businesses, robust trades, and well-paid jobs. Only in this way can we sustainably finance schools, daycare centers, culture, sports, and social services, and create opportunities for young people so that they stay in Görlitz or return.
Balance sheet:
- Increase in trade tax revenues by approximately 16%

Görlitz is a film city, a European city, and a cultural city. This should be seen – this should be felt.

Traffic
Good accessibility and safe, sustainable mobility are prerequisites for growth.
Balance sheet:
- The overall transport concept is being updated
- Blockhaus Bridge renovated – basis for railway electrification
- Start of the renovation of the historic platform hall (completion by 2029, investment sum 33.5 million euros)
- European City Ticket for cross-border public transport
- Preservation of the tram as an important means of transport
- Project “Public Transport Model City”: Modernization of the transport infrastructure and procurement of new barrier-free trams
- Upgrade of the Oder-Neisse Cycle Route and new bicycle rest area in Klingewalde

Goals:
A modern transport concept with a focus on sustainable mobility.
Specifically:
- Safe intersections, bicycle parking facilities and bicycle transport on public transport
- Accessible stops and new trams
- Expansion of the cycle path network between the city districts and into the surrounding area; in particular the connection between Biesnitz and Berzdorfer See
- Improving safety for all road users; especially at Lake Berzdorf
- Further development of the airfield
- Further commitment to better connections to Dresden and Cottbus; integration into long-distance rail services and complete electrification
